Abstract
The purpose of this study is to verify the validity of the Measure of Unmet Need originally developed by Gaugler and his collegues(2004) for dementia caregivers. The Measure of Unmet Need is a unique measure of unmet need of dementia caregivers at home, following institutionalization, following the death of the care recipient. For data collection, a self-administered questionnaire were distributed to 18 adult day-care centers and 5 home-visit long-term care management agencies in Daejeon metropolitan city and Chungcheong province which resulted in a total of 200 questionnaires being distributed and 167 questionnaires returned for the final analysis. By conducting Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis, the Korean version Measure of Unmet Need Scale was developed which consist of 32 items. This scale include the following seven factors: ¡®Help with Activities of Daily Living 1¡¯, ¡®Help with Activities of Daily Living 2¡¯, ¡®Dementia symptoms``, ¡®Timing of care``, ¡®Formal support``, ¡®Information of care``, ¡®Confidante``. The Cronbach`s alpha estimate of the scale was .861. This scale of seven factors model exhibited acceptable fit, assessed by overall fit measure criteria(CFI=.959, TLI=.953, RMSEA=.051). Also, this scale met the criteria of convergent validity and discriminant validity. These results proved the validity of the scale.
